The Washington Capitals came into the TD Bank Garden and sent a message around the Eastern Conference that they will be a team to reckoned with. After two goals by Alex Ovechkin in the first period, the clamps came on and the Bruins withered as time moved on. The Bruins took sloppy penalties and failed to shoot ad they played timid in their own building. One of the worst games I've seen the Bruins play in five years.
There was no go, there was no in your face, there was surrender in every corner and the longer the game went on, the worse it looked. If there was a coordinated defense in front of Tuukka Rask who played fairly well, I didn't comprehend it. I'd be pretty aggravated if I were Rask for non support when it mattered. A mailed in effort and domination in all three zones. The special teams failed to find a rally point. This game was over after the first period and Bruins looked bush league in chasing the Caps around the rink in their own building.
If you read my pre-game report, the Bruins followed the script about what not to do and to add insult to injury, welcomed Mike Greene back and gave him his due with limited minutes. Milan Lucic needs to take a seat and the Bruins lines of Soderberg and Bergeron were stymied at every turn. Holtby looked like an all-star without being challenged as the Caps defense turned the Bruins at every corner. Does Loui Eriksson really think floating along on the rightwing boards is playing hockey? Milan Lucic took exception to the flow of the game in the third period after the fourth goal? Really? This is Bruins hockey? Where's the lunch pails? Where's the sacrifice of body to make plays? Why is this team so soft in the offensive zone?
Memo to Claude Julien: get this teams head out of it's fourth point of contact and fast, or there might not be a season to redeem. This team is on a roller coaster to a 2-10 record in October based on competition. They might never recover! There better be some accounting in this dressing room! There are plenty of players in Providence willing to play in Boston. Solve the Salary Cap issues with wholesale trades. I don't care if they win, lets do something about competing. I feel emotionally overwhelmed!
Until Next Time!
