The Bruins are preparing for their first road game of the season against the Detroit Red Wings. The Bruins are coming off of a win over the Flyers in a game that was what you would expect a first game to look like filled with missed passes some slow legs and a few bad reads. The good news is we got the win and it looks like Chris Kelly and Reilly Smith are back to their old form after injuries and contract issues. Now it's on to Detroit in a rematch of last years first round of the playoffs. Hopefully the Bruins can use the fact that they have already played their first game to their advantage since this is Detroit's season opener.
Detroit will be without star center Pavel Datsyuk so that will likely lead to some line juggling which could hurt the chemistry of the team. The Bruins are going through the same problem without David Krejci but have the added experience of already playing their first game with the lines they will likely use tonight. Detroit will have to lean on Henrik Zetterberg and Gustav Nyquist to carry the team offensively with out the playmaking ability of Datsyuk. Fortunately for the Bruins they still have plenty of talent as well without Krejci with Bergeron Eriksson and Soderberg likely to lead the way offensively. The youth movement will continue for the Wings as Andrej Nestrasil will make his NHL debut with Pavel Datsyuk out.
The Wings have plenty of speed on their team which could cause some problems for the Bruins defense but since it is so early in the year everyone has plenty left in their legs. I don't see this game being as much of a mess for the Bruins as last nights game but it still won't be very pretty. The Wings will likely come out firing so as long as the Bruins can weather the early storm they should be just fine. The Bruins will win the game I'm predicting by a score of 3-1 with goals by Lucic, Krug, and Bergeron while the lone tally for the Wings will come from Tomas Tatar.
