As I was writing the previous article the Bruins announced the demotion of 10 players to the Providence Bruins squad. Also the PTO of Bracken Kearns was terminated and he is released. Those demoted include Tyler Randall ( who must clear waivers), Chris Casto, Zach Trotman, Alex Fallstrom, Brian Ferlin, Jared Knight, Matt Lindblad, Ben Sexton, Joe Morrow and to my surprise, Seth Griffith.
On the ice practicing today were the following: Goaltenders, Tuukka Rask, Niklas Svedberg, Jeremy Smith and Maicolm Subban. Defensemen, Zdeno Chara, Doug Hamilton, Dennis Seidenberg, John Boychuk, Matt Bartkowski, Kevan Miller, David Warsofski, Adam McQuaid and Chris Breen. Forwards, David Krejci, Milan Lucic, Loui Eriksson, Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, Matt Fraser, Carl Soderberg, Chris Kelly, Simon Gagne, Alex Khokhlachev, Justin Florek, Bobby Robins, Jordan Caron, Craig Cunningham, Dan Paille, Ryan Spooner, Ville Leino and David Pastrnak who returned to practice today.
This leaves Anthony Camara, Linus Arnesson, Greg Campbell on the injured list and Torey Krug and Reilly Smith unsigned. So to tabulate, thats 4 goalies, 9 defensemen, 18 forwards, 3 injured and 2 unsigned for 31 skaters and 5 off ice personal. The Bruins must pair this down to 22-23 players for October 8th.
Just as an note, the $69 million Salary Cap translates into a salary cap of $ 841,464 per game for a 22-23 man roster. The Bruins have currently with Matt Fraser and the bonus of $4.75 million included and Marc Savard subtracted, $66.377 million towards the cap with $2.623 million available to sign a thirteenth forward and eighth defenseman.
I expect Subban, Breen, Khokhlachev, Robins, Cunningham and Warsofski in the next cut with Camara and Arnesson to go down when healthy enough to skate. That means the competition between Florek, Spooner, Caron and Pastrnak will heat up and we'll know by next Sunday the status of Gagne and Leino.
Things are heating up and the Madness is Growing!!
Until Next Time!
