Last night was the annual Black and Gold preseason game the Bruins play annually in recent years and to the delight of their affiliate franchise in Providence, it was held in the Dunkin donuts Center in Providence, home of the Baby B's. The Black team was led by Zdeno Chara and the Gold team by Patrice Bergeron. A lot of rust was evident early with many of the core Bruins players trying to shake of some grit after injuries such as Chris Kelly, Adam McQuaid and Dennis Seidenberg. Many of the current Bruins came up through the development system in Providence such as Tuukka Rask, John Boychuk, McQuaid, Bergeron and Marchand. They experienced some friendly catcalls and cheers at times and the players humbly grinned about providing some memorable performances in years past.
Team Chara won the contest on the backs of good goalie performances of Niklas Svedberg and Malcolm Subban and goals were scored by Chris Casto, Zach Trotman, Jared Knight, Alexander Khokhlachev and two goals by Tyler Randall.
Alex Fallstrom had the lone tally for Team Bergeron and no significant injuries occurred for either team. A couple of players in particular who didn't shine were Ville Leino and Simon Gagne, who can't afford to look behind the power curve too long if they expect the Bruins Management to take notice or other teams around the league. Seth Griffin, Tyler Randell and Alex Khokhlachev raised some eyebrows during the game for their efforts offensively as did Casto, Warsofski and Trotman on the defense. Final score was Team Black 6 Team Gold 1.
Notables not playing last night were Milan Lucic, Greg Campbell, Doug Hamilton and Linus Arnesson.
The Bruins face the Montreal Canadians on Tuesday at 7:30PM for their first official pre-season game and the roster has not yet been announced.
Until Next Time!
