Yesterday another Captains Practice was held at Rusticcia Arena and a few more Bruins wandered in that will be attending training camp. Dougie Hamilton, Ville Leino, Greg Campbell, Ryan Spooner and Jeremy Smith hit the ice. That made for 16 forwards, 10 defensemen and 3 goaltenders that have contracts and will likely be on the team or vying for a spot on the roster.
The forwards: Justin Florek, Dan Paille, Greg Campbell, Carl Soderberg, Chris Kelly, Matt Fraser, Milan Lucic, David Krejci, Loui Eriksson, Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron, Jordan Caron, Ryan Spooner, Ville Leino, Tyler Randell and Bobby Robins.
The defensemen: Zdeno Chara, Dennis Seidenberg, Johnny Boychuk, Dougie Hamilton, Matt Bartkowski, Adam McQuaid, David Warsofsky, Zach Trotman, Tommy Cross and Steve Eminger.
The goaltenders: Tuukka Rask, Niklas Svedberg and Jeremy Smith.
One makes the case that you can find 13 forwards, 8 defensemen and 2 goaltenders for opening night from that list.
Still missing are Kevan Miller, PTO Simon Gagne ( will report on Monday), unsigned RFA's Torey Krug and Reilly Smith and a new PTO player, Bracken Kearns from the San Jose organization.
Kearns had a cup of coffee last year with the Sharks and played mostly in the AHL. He's a forward listed as a 33 yr/old left shooting center that's 6'0" and 195 lbs. He scored 3 goals and had 2 assists for the Sharks in 25 games and may be looked upon as depth in Providence as Nick Johnson was last year.
As a side note: I'd like to shout out condolences to the Suter family of Minnesota as Bob Suter aged 57 passed away of a heart attack last Tuesday. He was the first member of the USA Olympic team of 1980 to pass on. Though he never played in the NHL, his son Ryan plays for the Minnesota Wild and his brother Gary played 14 years in the NHL. He was an American Pioneer in hockey and making it a popular sport and growing the game.
Until Next Time !
