Tonight the Bruins play the Detroit Redwings in "The Joe" as Detroit opens it's season tonight at 7:30PM.
Downers: David Krejci is injured and since he hasn't been skating, I suspect a lower body injury such as a groin or knee/ankle problem. Milan Lucic in 15 minutes didn't have a shot or hit last night and was pretty quiet. Doug Hamilton didn't seem as on top of his game and may not dress tonight in favor of Matt Bartkowski.
Uppers: Craig Cunningham playing in his first Bruin game didn't seem out of place last night with 4 hits, three shots and winning 6 of 12 face-offs. He also seemed to play well with Dan Paille as a short handed pair on the penalty kill. Though last night was a good performance for Bobby Robins, he may not dress tonight as the Redwings aren't a real fighting team. You may see Jordan Caron play with Paille and Cinningham tonight.
Bits: Tonight will complete the first of 16 back to back games on the schedule over the season. Only four Bruins had practice this morning as the team flew out last night after the game to Detroit. Simon Gagne, Jordan Caron, Matt Bartkowski and Niklas Svedberg were on the ice and with the exception of Gagne, the other three may all be in uniform to play tonight.
Pieces: Reilly Smith scored the teams first goal last night night and first power play goal. Chris Kelly scored the teams first even strength goal and first game winner. Carl Sodergberg had two assists. Tuukka Rask had his first win and stopped 19 of 20 shots for .950 SV% and GAA of 1.00. Bobby Robins had and won the first fight of the new season.
Keys to the Game: Generate good pressure, stay out of the penalty box, be strong in the face-off circle.
Until Next Time !
