The Bruins beat the Buffalo Sabres in OT in a less than spirited game 3-2. The Hero tonight was Brad Marchand sans Patrice Bergeron as he contributed 2 goals and an assist. Nicholas Svedberg did his best only facing 15 shots and made some key saves in critical situations as he was abandoned and it led to both Sabres goals.
But the Bruins prevailed and I wasn't impressed with the new meshing of lines. I was however impressed with limited minutes in Joe Morrow and Zach Trotman. Thank goodness the Bruins played Buffalo and not one of the other 28 teams tonight and I don't believe the Bruins will prevail with Ottawa on Saturday with the current effort.
Do I think we can get more out of Marchand moving forward? Yes, but without Bergeron as his pivot man, Marchand will fall short. Coach Julien needs a refocus and fast. I'm anxious to see Matt Fraser in the lineup. Simon Gagne has hit his wall and we need fresh legs.
I'm all for continuing the Morrow and Trotman experiment, I would risk more minutes as they played some of the best defense during the game. Seidenberg and Hamilton played hard and good minutes, but started to fade in the third period with too many minutes on the ice. The Coach needs to address spreading out the minutes throughout the team.
We will see how the next two days advance the Bruins mindset and effort, but the Bruins need more focus determination.
Until Next Time!
