They took away everybody in the second half," Patriots quarterback Brady said.
The Dolphins lead their attack on the ground. Newly found running back Knowshon Moreno for the Miami Dolphins turned up on the Pats’ defense. In the first half Moreno made sure that he was going to be a factor in this game. He had 91 yards in the first half compared to the Pats’ running attack, which only had 28 yards at the half and finished the game with 134 yards.
What happened to the Pats that we are used to seeing? On both sides of the ball, players looked out of sync and just was getting beat literally. Defensively the Dolphins had one game plan for the Pats and it was to make Brady uncomfortable in the pocket. They did a great job with getting pressure in Brady’s face; he was sacked four times in the game. The Dolphins also exposed the Pat’s defense. In the second half the Dolphins outscored the Pats by more than 23 points, which hasn’t been done since Nov.20.2008 against the Steelers
"We need to do a better job than we did today," Patriots coach Bill Belichick said. "It's as simple as that."
The good thing that came out of this game for Brady was he moved into the number six spot for All-time passing.
For the first time since 2003 the Pats are in last place in their division, but remember it is just the first game of the season.
“We made a statement as a team, Rookie Chris McCain said. “We had three or four turnovers and we were down, but we knew we could do something. We had to calm down, get our poise and come out and play ball. We came back real well and shut them out in the second half. That's unheard of. With Tom Brady out there you expect about 35 points."
“We knew, as our game plan, we had to come in there and get to him,” said defensive end Cameron Wake of rushing Tom Brady. “That’s part of when you play the Patriots. We know he’s kind of running the ship over there and whatever you can do to kind of throw him off his game, you got to get it done, and you got to get it done with the front four. So, we look to our right and our left, and say ‘Hey look, we got to get the job done. The guys came out and they played hard.”
After the game Brady was asked about the new style of setting up his offensive line and this is what he had to say about it: “Truthfully I don’t think we were really jelling anywhere,” Brady said diplomatically. “There wasn’t much positive from the quarterback position, the receiver position, the tight end position and the running back position. None of us can play like that and expect to win. All of us have to go out and do a much better job than we did today. We’ve got to take the coaching, understand what we need to do better and then go out and execute next week.”
This week the Pats will go out and play the Minnesota Vikings. They are fully aware that they need to fix a lot of issue and concerns containing the team.
