Michael Hoomanawanui and DJ Williams are the two other veteran tight ends that are going to be competing along side of Gronkowski. Look for Hoomanawanui to get the starts early in the season as he is familiar with Josh McDaniels offense and has a strong familiarity with Brady after filling for Gronkowski last season. Williams is still a young player, and will be able to add good depth. He should look to come into training camp ready to compete and give Hoomanawanui a run for his money at the starting position if Gronkowski is not available early in the season.
The Patriots are bringing two undrafted free agents into camp this summer. Justin Jones, from East Carolina, is a physical specimen. At 6 foot 8 inches, 275 pounds, he will surely draw attention solely on his size. He is definitely worth taking a risk just based on his size. If he can compete well in camp look for him to make the roster and give the Patriots more depth at the tight end position. Asa Watson, brother of former Patriot Benjamin Watson received an invite to training camp out of the North Carolina State University. Asa is another player that is being brought into camp to compete with the veterans, it is tough to tell whether he will make the team or not. If he does he will add solid depth to the tight end position.
