Coming off a strong defensive preseason, the Celtics will kick off their regular season tonight against the Brooklyn Nets at 7:30 p.m. in Boston. Rondo was a nap time decision and announced earlier this afternoon that he will be playing.
Stevens says he will put the starters in for half the game or maybe even less, but be prepared to see a lot of the younger players out on the court. It is projected that Powell, Smart, Pressey and Young-- who was cleared by medical staff and practiced twice, once with contact and once without-- will receive a good amount of playing time.
The Nets are taking a different approach by listing Andrei Kirilenko Bojan Bogdanovic, Jarrett Jack, Joe Johnson and Mason Plumlee as its starters for tonight’s game. Nets starters Deron Williams (rest), Brook Lopez (right foot sprain) and Kevin Garnett (stomach virus) are listed as out.
Players to watch:
Marcus Smart, the rookie scored 16 points in less than 16 minutes in last Wednesday’s preseason game against the Nets and averaged 14.5 points over his last two games and 2.4 steals
Mason Plumlee, who averaged 17.5 points and 14 rebounds in 29.5 minutes over his final two preseason games.
Tonight’s game probably won’t be action packed, but we will be seeing plenty of new faces and hopefully a lot of new talent.
