Tony Stewart will return to the track this weekend, after missing the last three races following the death of Kevin Ward Jr. Stewart spoke to the media for the first time on Friday afternoon.
“This is something that will definitely affect my life forever,” Stewart said. “This is a sadness and a pain that I hope no one ever has to experience in their life.”
NASCAR later announced that Stewart would be given a waiver for the Chase for the Sprint Cup. If he wins one of the last two races before the cutoff, Stewart will be eligible for NASCAR’s playoff system. Stewart qualified 12th for the race on Sunday.
Chase for the Sprint Cup
With just two races remaining before the Chase cutoff, many drivers are still looking for a victory to punch their ticket for the Chase. Kasey Kahne will lead a group looking for that first win that also includes rookies Kyle Larson and Austin Dillon. The race could get exciting when drivers put their season on the line with nothing to lose.
