The Chase for the Sprint Cup
Chicagoland marks the first race for NASCAR’s playoff system. Many will be watching to see who can win under the new Chase system, which includes 16 drivers and different rounds of elimination for the first time. All eyes will be on those 16 drivers this weekend to see who can lock themselves into the next round with a win. (To get a better understanding of the new Chase format, check out my story from earlier this week.)
Rain plagued practice and qualifying on Friday afternoon, cancelling the Cup Series qualifying session and the Camping World Truck Series race. While the rain isn’t supposed to be a concern on Sunday, a green racetrack will make some teams scramble to find the handling they desperately need during practice and the race.
