Race to the Chase
The Chase field will be set on Saturday night following the race. Two spots remain open, but Ryan Newman -- up by 42 points -- will probably be in the Chase field. That leaves just one spot to numerous drivers, including Clint Bowyer, Greg Biffle and rookies Kyle Larson and Austin Dillon. If any winless driver wins the race, they will qualify their way into the Chase. Biffle holds the final Chase spot, but Bowyer and Larson are within striking distance. With only 400 laps to settle the final Chase spots, Saturday is setting up to be a good race.
Harvick had one of the strongest cars last weekend, but his pit crew was unable to get him into a good position late in the race. Harvick led practice on Friday afternoon, and he qualified fourth for the Federated Auto Parts 400. He will be looking to bounce back from last weekend’s disappointment and have a strong run to take momentum into the Chase.
Last weekend, Stewart returned to the track for the first time since the death of Kevin Ward Jr. He had a strong run early in the race, but a flat tire ended his night early. Stewart is still looking for his first victory of the season, and a win this weekend would put him in the Chase. All eyes will still be on Stewart to see how he continues to handle his return.
