It's me, Joe again. I'm not sure if you got my letter last time, but I'm writing this one because a few things have changed since my last one. I know you've got a lot on your plate right now and John and Larry are probably hiding behind you, creepily breathing down your neck, but hear me out.
Trade for Troy Tulowitski. Grab the bull by the horns and set off some fireworks, because you know if you don't, the New York Yankees will and will act like it was this super original idea. I know I had suggested it weeks ago, but now Johnette Howard of ESPNNY.COM is pleading for Tulo to be Jeter's replacement. I've never been a fan of very many Yankees players in my day, but god damnit I've always respected Derek Jeter. Can we please pull the carpet under this one? It will solve a lot.
You said we're not giving up yet. My new favorite sports writer, Ricky Doyle with NESN still believes this team came make things interesting. Fill the loving cup, brothah. Reward those who are still faithful. The victories will be that much sweeter.
I've noticed a few roster moves and I like what you've done. I guess AJ was having more fun on his phone than hustling to second base. But you've outdone yourself calling up Vazquez. He even has the body and cannon to actually play the position in the field. And you can tell he loves to play and hustles around the bases. He's gonna be fun to watch.
I still believe that this team can turn it around with another bat or two. JBJ is playing stellar defense in center and finally heating up. Brock Holt is only writing new chapters to his impressive legend (check out the awesome stickers Boston Baseball is giving away with their program before games). Nava and Buccholz have been playing well as of late. This team is finally starting to build some confidence. Pedey is hungry. Lester has been lights out. Lackey is pissing gasoline. These guys are rested, pissed, and have something to prove. Send in some reinforcements and start annihilating.
4 out of 5 before the break including a Buccholz complete game shutout is a great place to start. I really like Farrell's idea to start the second half with Buch again as well. John's trying really hard to make this work. You gotta respect the guy and give him some more tools to work with.
We've got 3 against one of the strongest Royals teams in years and then 13 divisional games. 8 of those games are against an overachieving Toronto team. We gotta focus on winning one game at a time and the rest will work itself out. Think of the story. Remember, each season is a marathon, not a sprint.
If you're having reservations about making a big move, listen to Exile on Main Street to give you some confidence. Trade for Tulo. Now pass me the wine and let's get another one of these bad boys.
P.S. Victorino was humbly carrying the bats back to the dug out during his Futures at Fenway rehab assignment. He's ready to cause some damage.
